Jaime's Dog, Izi
I was a typical first time dog owner—enthusiastic about my adorable Willow but pretty clueless about small dog behavior. Julie put us both on the right track together with positive, kind methods we responded to immediately.

I gained a lot of confidence, so did Willow.  Two years later my dog and I are having fun and still in synch (and if occasionally we aren't, I know how to change the situation—gently)

Thanks Julie!

Training Methodology

Sharp Dogs follows the scientifically based guidelines of positive reinforcement in all of its dog training. The basic premise in animal learning science is that any behavior that is rewarded is repeated. This means we focus on reinforcing desirable behaviors (loose leash walking, coming when called, etc.), and remove the reinforcement for undesirable behaviors.

You learn how to motivate your dog using treats, play, social, and even environmental rewards instead of correcting bad behavior. As Jean Donaldson says “Dogs do what works.”  Reward-based methods make sense to your dog and do not involve the use of physical punishment, discomfort, fear, or intimidation. Dogs trained with positive reinforcement willingly offer well-mannered behaviors, instead of offering behaviors out of fear of getting it wrong. Both you and your dog will enjoy learning.
